09 - Pinch of salt

→ For the Sautéed Mushrooms

10 - 8 oz cremini or white mushrooms, sliced
11 - 1 tbsp unsalted butter
12 - 1 clove garlic, minced
13 - Salt and pepper, to taste

→ For Assembly

14 - 4 burger buns, toasted
15 - 4 slices Swiss or provolone cheese
16 - 2 tbsp mayonnaise (optional)
17 - 4 lettuce leaves (optional)
18 - 4 tomato slices (optional)

# How to Make:

01 - Heat butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions, sprinkle with sugar and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 20-25 minutes until deep golden brown and very soft. Remove from skillet and set aside.
02 - In the same skillet, add butter and mushrooms. Cook over medium-high heat for 5-7 minutes until browned and tender. Add minced garlic, cook for 1 more minute, and season with salt and pepper. Set aside.
03 - In a bowl, mix ground beef with salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Form into 4 equal patties, slightly larger than the buns to account for shrinkage.
04 - Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 3-4 minutes per side for medium doneness. During the last minute, place a cheese slice on each patty and cover to melt.
05 - Lightly toast burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.
06 - Spread mayonnaise on the bottom buns if desired. Add lettuce and tomato, then the beef patty with melted cheese. Top with caramelized onions and sautéed mushrooms. Finish with the top bun.
07 - Serve immediately with your favorite sides such as fries or a side salad.
