Brown Sugar Overnight Oats (Print View)

Creamy oats prepared the night before with brown sugar, vanilla, and your choice of toppings.

# What You'll Need:

→ Oats Base

01 - 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
02 - 1 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
03 - 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
04 - 2 tbsp brown sugar
05 - 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
06 - Pinch of salt

→ Toppings (optional)

07 - 1/2 cup fresh berries or sliced banana
08 - 1 tbsp chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans)
09 - 1 tbsp chia seeds or flaxseeds

# How to Make:

01 - In a medium bowl or large jar, combine oats, milk, Greek yogurt, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated.
02 - Cover the container and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight. This allows the oats to soften and fully absorb the liquid for a creamy texture.
03 - In the morning, give the oats a good stir. If the mixture appears too thick, add a splash of milk to reach your desired consistency.
04 - Divide the oat mixture evenly between two bowls or jars. Top with fresh berries, sliced banana, chopped nuts, and seeds as desired. Serve chilled.

# Expert Suggestions:

01 -
  • Mornings become calmer when breakfast is already waiting for you
  • The texture develops into something pudding-like that hot oats can never quite achieve
02 -
  • The oats continue softening the longer they sit, so day three will have a different texture than day one
  • Placement in the refrigerator matters—back of the fridge stays colder and more consistent than the door
03 -
  • Mason jars with wide mouths are easier to clean than narrow ones
  • Stirring again right before eating redistributes any settled liquid
