Chocolate peanut butter cereal mix with green candy coating and sprinkles

# What You'll Need:

→ Base

01 - 9 cups rice Chex cereal

→ Chocolate & Peanut Butter Coating

02 - 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
03 - 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
04 - 1/4 cup unsalted butter
05 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

→ Powder & Decorations

06 - 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
07 - 1/2 cup green candy melts or white chocolate chips with green food coloring
08 - 1/4 cup green and gold sprinkles
09 - 1/2 cup green chocolate candies, optional

# How to Make:

01 - Place Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl and set aside.
02 - In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until melted and smooth (about 1–2 minutes total).
03 - Stir in vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
04 - Pour the melted mixture over the cereal and gently fold with a spatula until all pieces are evenly coated.
05 - Transfer the coated cereal to a large zip-top bag. Add powdered sugar, seal, and shake vigorously until all pieces are well coated.
06 - In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt green candy melts (or white chocolate chips with a few drops of green food coloring) in 20-second bursts, stirring until smooth.
07 - Drizzle the green candy over the puppy chow and toss gently to distribute. Spread the mixture on a lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with green and gold sprinkles and green chocolate candies. Allow to set for 10 minutes before serving.

# Expert Suggestions:

01 -
  • The chocolate peanut butter combo is impossible to resist and the green sprinkles make everything feel like a party
  • It takes twenty minutes from start to finish and disappears even faster than that
  • You can make it ahead and it actually tastes better the next day when the flavors have melded together
02 -
  • Work quickly once you start melting the chocolate because the coating thickens as it cools and becomes hard to distribute evenly
  • Use a really large zip top bag for the powdered sugar step or it will burst open and coat your entire kitchen in white dust
  • The puppy chow needs to cool completely before you store it or it will clump together into one giant sticky mess
03 -
  • Use room temperature peanut butter to prevent the chocolate from seizing when you combine them
  • If your puppy chow feels too sticky after the powdered sugar step add another 1/4 cup and shake again
  • Place the baking sheet in the fridge for 5 minutes to speed up the setting process if you're pressed for time
